Scan the square code on the bottom of the box
The code is read on your device. Images are not stored or sent anywhere.
Point your phone at the square code on the bottom of a LEGO Minifigures box and this free scanner shows which figure is inside, before you buy it.
Series the scanner recognises
The scanner reads 285 box codes from 8 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (CMF) series, from Series 25 (January 2024) to the Shrek Series (September 2026), 12 figures each. Each card shows how many codes we hold for Europe and the Americas and links to the series' full code table.

How to scan
Won't scan?
- The camera won't focus on the square. Phones with several lenses sometimes struggle to switch to close focus, so move the box further away rather than closer (brickfact). If it still won't read, take a photo of the code instead: the scanner reads the picture.
- The square is much smaller than usual. The very first Series 25 boxes, made in late 2023, carry a small square that doesn't contain the figure number, so no scanner can identify them (Jay's Brick Blog, brickfact). Every later box has the larger square, and that one works.
- A price sticker covers the code. Some shops put their own price labels over the square, which makes the box unreadable (brickfact). No camera can read the code through a label.
- My QR code app doesn't read it. The square is a Data Matrix code, not a QR code, and many ordinary QR readers can't decode it (Eurobricks forum, January 2024). Readers that can show only a long string of digits; this scanner turns the first seven into a figure.
- The code is read but not recognised. LEGO has changed codes between production runs: in autumn 2024 some Dungeons & Dragons boxes carried the code of a different figure (brickfact). A brand-new run or series may not be in any public list yet. The scanner shows the seven digits it read, and new codes are added once two independent code lists agree.

What the code on a LEGO Minifigures box means
The square next to the barcode is a Data Matrix code, a 2D code most collectors call a QR code. LEGO has printed it on every Minifigures blind box since Series 25 (set 71045, January 2024).
- The first seven digits identify the figure. Scanned, the square gives a long string of digits, and the first seven belong to one minifigure. The Series 25 Vampire Knight, for example, is 6472871 on a European box and 6471970 on an American one (Jay's Brick Blog, 5 January 2024).
- The letter under the square names the factory. Below the square is a short production line of five characters. The fourth is S for the plant in the Czech Republic, which packs boxes for the UK and the EU, or R for the plant in Mexico, which packs boxes for the US and Canada (brickfact, Jay's Brick Blog, brick'em). The two factories use different numbers for the same figure, so the scanner labels each result Europe S, Americas R, or Region not specified when the code lists we checked disagree on the region.
- One figure can have several codes. In the later series, European boxes often carry two or three different codes for the same figure (Series 26: two; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: three) and American boxes one. For the Shrek Series, only Brickbank labels the European codes as European; brick'em lists just the American ones.
- The barcode doesn't help. The long barcode is the same on all 12 boxes of a series: on Series 29 it is 5702018066980 on every box.
The code depends on the factory, not the shop: a box bought in New York keeps its American code in London.
Australia and New Zealand. We haven't found a source that says which factory supplies shops in Australia and New Zealand. The only report we found, by Bricking Around (1 May 2024), said Australian Series 26 boxes had no scannable codes; we have seen nothing since that confirms or contradicts it for later series. Check the fourth character under the square: S means the code is in the European lists, R in the American ones.
Bags, bump codes and boxes without a figure code
Before Series 25 there was no square code to scan, which is why codes for Series 24, Disney 100 or The Muppets don't exist. How older series were marked (brickfact, Wikipedia):
- Series 1 and 2 (2010): a second, figure-specific barcode on the back of the bag.
- Series 3 and 4: a pattern of embossed dots in the bottom seal, known as bump codes.
- Later bags, up to Disney 100 (May 2023): no marking at all. Collectors felt through the foil for the biggest part.
- Marvel Studios Series 2 (September 2023): the first series in cardboard boxes. The box has a small printed code, but it doesn't name the figure, so apps can only estimate (brickfact).
- Series 25 (January 2024) onwards: the large square code this scanner reads.
Every series with its release date is in our LEGO Minifigures series list.
After the scan: your checklist and duplicates
ColleX is a collection tracker, so each scan is checked against your own marks: the scanner tells you whether you're missing the figure, have it on your Want list, or already own it and would get a duplicate. One tap marks it Have or Want, and the series card shows how many of the 12 you have. Without an account the marks stay on this device. What to do with a duplicate is in the last question below.
Not confirmed: Series 30
LEGO had not announced Series 30 as of 2 November 2026, so there are no Series 30 codes to scan. What circulates among fans: StoneWars (25 June 2026), citing the Polish blog fanklockow.pl, expects 12 figures on 1 January 2027 and treats 71054 as the likely set number; BrickEconomy lists 71054 as a rumoured set for January 2027. When the boxes appear, their codes go into the scanner once two independent code lists agree.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an official LEGO minifigure scanner?
No. As of November 2026 none of LEGO's own apps identifies the figure in a sealed box, and brickfact (15 October 2026) knows of no official scanner either. LEGO prints the codes on the boxes; every scanner that reads them, this one included, is made by fans or independent developers.
How can you tell which LEGO minifigure is in the box without opening it?
The reliable way to tell which LEGO minifigure you get is to scan the square code on the bottom of the box: from Series 25 (January 2024) onwards its first seven digits identify the figure, so the box stays sealed. This page reads the code in your phone's browser and shows the figure, its series and whether you already have it. Foil bags from 2023 and earlier have no such code and are identified by feel.
Where is the code on a LEGO minifigure box, and which of the two codes do I scan?
Both codes are on the bottom of the box. The long barcode is the same on all 12 boxes of a series, so ignore it; scan the small square of dots next to it, a Data Matrix code. Covering the barcode with a finger helps the camera pick the right one (Jay's Brick Blog).
Which LEGO Minifigures series can you scan?
You can scan LEGO minifigure boxes from Series 25 (January 2024) to the Shrek Series (September 2026): the series table on this page lists each one with its number of codes and regions, checked November 2, 2026. Series sold in foil bags (up to Disney 100, May 2023) and Marvel Studios Series 2 have no figure code.
Why won't my LEGO minifigure box scan?
When the scanner isn't working, usually the camera is aimed at the barcode instead of the square, or it's too close to focus: hold the phone about 15 cm (6 inches) away, or take a photo of the code. The very first Series 25 boxes have a small square without a figure number, a price sticker over the square blocks it, and ordinary QR apps often can't read Data Matrix. A code that is read but not recognised may come from a new production run.
Are LEGO minifigure codes different in the US, the UK and EU, and Australia?
Yes. Boxes for the UK and the EU come from the Czech factory (an S as the fourth character under the square) and boxes for the US and Canada from Mexico (an R), and the same figure has different codes in each. This scanner knows both sets and labels the result Europe or Americas. For Australia and New Zealand we found no source naming the factory; Bricking Around reported in May 2024 that Australian Series 26 boxes had no scannable codes.
Do old LEGO minifigure bags have codes?
Only the earliest ones. Series 1 and 2 (2010) had a second, figure-specific barcode on the bag, Series 3 and 4 had embossed dots in the seal known as bump codes, and later bags had no marking at all (brickfact, Wikipedia). This scanner reads only box codes, which start with Series 25 in January 2024.
Is the scanner free, and do I need an app?
It's free and runs in the browser on your phone, so there's no app to install. You can scan without an account; with one, your Have and Want marks are saved to your collection on every device.
Can you scan LEGO Minifigures Series 30?
Not yet: as of 2 November 2026 LEGO had not officially announced Series 30, so there are no codes. Not officially confirmed; according to rumours (StoneWars, 25 June 2026; BrickEconomy), it will be set 71054 with 12 figures in January 2027. Codes will be added once the boxes are out and two independent code lists agree.
What do I do with a duplicate minifigure?
Trade it on ColleX. Mark the figure Have with a quantity of 2 or more and mark the ones you're missing as Want. If trading on ColleX is open in your country, ColleX shows collectors who need your duplicate and have figures you're missing, and you agree the swap with them in chat.
