LEGO Minifigures Series 9 (71000): 16 figures incl. Roman Emperor, Mr. Good and Evil and Judge, in some shops Dec 2012, officially Jan 2013.

LEGO Minifigures Series 9 is set 71000 – the first in the line with a five-digit number, after the four-digit 8683 to 8909. Its year is given as both 2012 and 2013, and both have a basis: WH Smith shops in the UK had the bags from December 2012 (Brickset, “Series 9 … spotted in the UK”; Eurobricks was expecting a 3 December global launch), while The Brick Fan’s review of 13 January 2013 calls January 2013 the official release; BrickOwl and Brickset file it under 2013. The 7 October 2012 date in English Wikipedia (as of 3 November 2026) does not fit: on 29 October 2012 The Brick Fan was still reporting a January release. The 16 figures are Waiter, Cyclops, Hollywood Starlet, Heroic Knight, Roman Emperor, Policeman, Chicken Suit Guy, Roller Derby Girl, Fortune Teller, Judge, Alien Avenger, Mermaid, Battle Mech, Mr. Good and Evil, Forest Maiden and Plumber. Many come with the tool of their trade (The Brick Fan, Eurobricks): the Roman Emperor a scroll reading “VENI, VIDI, VICI” and a gold laurel wreath, the Judge a wig and a new gavel, the Policeman handcuffs, the Fortune Teller tarot cards and the Plumber a plunger. Mr. Good and Evil is a Jekyll-and-Hyde figure – one half of his suit and face neat, the other torn – holding a potion. The Hollywood Starlet has an award statuette, the Cyclops a club and the Heroic Knight a new short sword. Series 9 also changed the box maths: The Brick Fan and Eurobricks both report that a sealed box now gave only two complete sets instead of the usual three. Nothing printed on these bags identifies the figure, so collectors sorted them by feel.
