LEGO Minifigures Team GB (2012)

LEGO Team GB minifigures (8909): the 9 London 2012 Olympic athletes, sold only in the UK from July 2012 – full list, medals and set facts.

The LEGO Team GB minifigures, set 8909, were LEGO’s tie-in with the London 2012 Olympic Games. LEGO UK’s press release of 17 May 2012, published by FBTB, said the range would be available only in the UK, from 1 July 2012 – nearly four weeks before the Games opened on 27 July; Wikipedia and Blocks Magazine say the same. Instead of the usual 16 there are nine athletes: Brawny Boxer, Stealth Swimmer, Relay Runner, Judo Fighter, Tactical Tennis Player, Flexible Gymnast, Wondrous Weightlifter, Horseback Rider and Agile Archer. Each figure stands for one Olympic sport – boxing, swimming, relay, judo, tennis, gymnastics, weightlifting, equestrian and archery – and every one of the nine comes with a gold medal (Blocks Magazine, Eurobricks). The Flexible Gymnast has a balance beam, the Agile Archer a black bow and the Brawny Boxer a blue headguard.
