LEGO Minifigures Series 21 (71029), the first 12-figure series: names from the Paddle Surfer to the Cabaret Singer, the Aztec-style Ancient Warrior and a feel guide for the bags.

LEGO Minifigures Series 21 — set 71029, or CMF Series 21 on collector forums — went on sale on 1 January 2021 and was the first numbered series cut to 12 figures instead of 16 (The Brothers Brick, Jay’s Brick Blog). Each figure came sealed in a plastic blind bag with a black stand and a checklist leaflet, and a retail case held 36 bags. Both reviewers’ cases held exactly three complete sets and nothing else, so no Series 21 figure is rarer than the rest. LEGO.com had 71029 marked as retired on 20 October 2026. The ColleX checklist has all 12, numbered 71029-1 to 71029-12. The full list in BrickLink order (col21-1 to col21-12): Paddle Surfer, Violin Kid, Shipwreck Survivor, Ladybug Girl, Pug Costume Guy, Centaur Warrior, Beekeeper, Ancient Warrior, Airplane Girl, Space Police Guy, Alien and Cabaret Singer. The Ancient Warrior is the one reviewers argued about: LEGO gave it a generic name, but The Brothers Brick and Jay’s Brick Blog both identify an Aztec jaguar warrior, with a pearl gold jaguar shield and a macuahuitl, the obsidian-edged wooden sword. The Centaur Warrior uses the horse body first made in 2020 for Harry Potter set 75967 Forbidden Forest: Umbridge’s Encounter, and the Shipwreck Survivor comes with a message in a bottle and a hermit crab. Two figures nod to LEGO’s old space themes: the Space Police Guy, with the Classic Space logo on his armour, and the Violin Kid, whose green hoodie is worn over a Blacktron-style B shirt — he also carries the first minifigure-scale violin. The Alien is a new species in an orange jumpsuit, holding a crowbar and a crystal. There are no codes to scan on Series 21. LEGO started printing Data Matrix codes on the boxes only with Series 25 (71045) in 2024, and neither BrickNav nor Minifigure Scanner lists codes for 71029 (checked 20 October 2026); numbers such as 71029-6 that turn up in searches are catalogue numbers for single figures, not a code on the bag. What works is feeling through the plastic. The Brothers Brick published a Series 21 feel guide on 5 January 2021, and Jay’s Brick Blog gives one tell-tale part per figure: the dolphin’s fin and split tail for the Paddle Surfer, the flat T-shaped plane for the Airplane Girl, the hooked crowbar for the Alien and the microphone stand — the only rod in the series — for the Cabaret Singer.
